Privacy Statement

Higher Education Australia (HEA) is committed to protecting your privacy in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), the Australian Privacy Principles, the Education Services for Overseas Students Act 2000 (ESOS Act), and HEA’s Privacy Management Policy and Procedures. This statement explains, in brief, how we handle your personal information as a higher education provider, including for overseas students on student visas.

What we collect

We collect personal information that we reasonably need to deliver our courses and services and to meet our legal and regulatory obligations. This may include your contact details, date of birth, academic history, payment details, health and wellbeing information (where relevant), and visa and immigration information for international students.

How we use and share it

We use your information to manage applications and enrolments, provide teaching and support, arrange placements, process payments, improve our services, and meet our reporting obligations (for example to TEQSA, the Department of Education, and the Department of Home Affairs under the ESOS framework). We may share information with government agencies, approved service providers (such as IT and payment providers), and industry partners where required or permitted by law and subject to appropriate safeguards.

Some services we use may be based overseas or store information outside Australia; where this occurs, we take reasonable steps to ensure your information is handled in line with the Australian Privacy Principles.

Access, correction and complaints

You can request access to, or correction of, the personal information HEA holds about you, subject to legal requirements. If you have a concern or complaint about how your information has been handled, you can raise it under our Complaints and Appeals Policy and Procedures, and you may also have the right to contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner or, for international students, the Overseas Students Ombudsman.
