Academic Support

HEA provides a range of academic support services to help students succeed in their studies and develop confidence in higher education learning.

Academic support is available to all students and is designed to assist with understanding course content, developing academic skills, and meeting assessment requirements.

What Academic Support Is Available?

Students can access support in areas such as:

  • Understanding assessment requirements and marking criteria
  • Academic writing and referencing
  • Research and information literacy
  • Study skills, time management, and exam preparation
  • Understanding feedback and improving academic performance
  • Transitioning to postgraduate study or Australian higher education
  • Ethical use of artificial intelligence

How Academic Support Is Provided

Academic support may be provided through:

  • Individual or small-group consultations
  • Workshops and study sessions
  • Online resources and guides
  • Academic skills materials available through the LMS

Support may be delivered on campus, online, or in a blended format.

Working with Teaching Staff

Students are encouraged to engage with teaching staff for academic guidance related to their units.

Teaching staff can assist with:

  • Clarifying learning outcomes and assessment tasks
  • Discussing feedback and academic progress
  • Referring students to additional support services where appropriate

Early Support and Progress Monitoring

HEA monitors student progress to identify students who may benefit from additional academic support.

Where appropriate, students may be contacted and offered guidance or referred to support services to help them stay on track with their studies.

Academic Support and Academic Integrity

Academic support services at HEA help students develop strong academic skills and ethical academic practices.

Support includes guidance on academic writing, referencing, research skills, and the responsible use of learning resources and digital tools, including generative AI. Students are supported to understand when and how GenAI tools may be used for learning, in line with assessment requirements.

Academic support focuses on skill development and independent learning. Support services do not complete assessments or produce academic work on behalf of students. Students remain responsible for the content they submit for assessment and are expected to act in accordance with academic integrity requirements.

How to Access Academic Support

Information on accessing academic support, including booking details and available resources, is provided through the Learning Management System (LMS).

Students may also contact the institution directly for assistance.
